Police are investigating a robbery at gunpoint of a woman as she walked home in George Town on Sunday night.
According to police, the 32-year-old victim was robbed around 9.35 p.m. as she took a shortcut through Courts Road from Delworth’s Esso to her home in Lakeside apartments, off the Esterley Tibbetts Highway.
She was approached from behind by a man who demanded money. The victim reported that a short black handgun was pressed into her back during the robbery.
The gunman made off with a blue leather backpack, a loaf of bread, a quart of milk, a dozen eggs, two bottles of iced tea, a white Louis Vuitton purse containing CI$120 and US$30, a Butterfield Bank debit card and a Scotia Bank debit card.
Police described the suspect as tall, very slim, with a skinny face and of brown complexion. He was wearing black three-quarter-length pants and a white hoody top that appeared too big for him. The victim was not physically injured.
In a statement released by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service Monday, police advised members of the public not to walk alone in secluded areas, and to stay in well-lit areas as much as possible.
