Get ready for the trance sounds of famed DJ and record producer Paul Oakenfold on April 25 at the Royal Watler Terminal.
The world-famous DJ, who once promoted the Beastie Boys and Run-D.M.C. and whose “Bunkka” sold more than 1 million copies worldwide, will share the stage with local DJs Snarfbeaz, Jonesian, Marcelle and Jeffrey James, as well DJ Liquid Todd, a regular on Sirius FM.
For more than three decades, Oakenfold has been one of the leading DJs in the global music scene and at the forefront of electronic music.
His most recent work has taken him from the DJ booth at top nightclubs and festivals to the studio, producing soundtracks for Hollywood blockbuster movies.
Highlights of his career include three worldwide tours, warming up for Madonna and U2, and two sold-out dates at the Hollywood Bowl in California. He has remixed for Michael Jackson, the Rolling Stones and Justin Timberlake, and released more than 20 DJ mix compilations.
He has also been responsible for creating film scores for a long list of top films, including “The Bourne Identity,” “Matrix Reloaded,” “Shrek 2,” “Swordfish” and “Collateral.”
Sian Weinzweig, representing Epic Day Entertainment, said that Oakenfold has wide appeal in Cayman.
“In order to make a concert like this work in such a small place as Grand Cayman, you need to appeal to many different cultures and generations,” she said, adding that securing Oakenfold was a difficult task.
“Paul is in his early 50s and still touring and releasing albums, so he will appeal to a wide range of expats and locals. Europeans especially are very familiar with him but he has been based in LA for so long that many North Americans and Caribbean people are also well aware of who he is.”
She added, “I believe this is a step in the right direction to getting more and more world-class DJs to the island. After the incredible reaction to the news of Paul Oakenfold coming here, I am convinced the island needs and wants more of these type of events.”
