Burger Shack close to perfection

Burger Shack is cooking up a flawless campaign.

The Burger King Coed League, put on by the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association, is staging its regular season finale on May 2. The Ed Bush field in West Bay will host eight games from 6 p.m. until roughly 10 p.m. incorporating 16 teams spread across two divisions.

Reigning champions Burger Shack, who have three top flight titles in four years, will be looking to go a perfect 8-0 atop the A Division. The veteran side has relied on proven talents like Barrett Edri, Perry Levy and Chris Bennett. Standing in their way is a 3-4 Pizza Hut side, led by Baron Solomon, hungry for a playoff seed.

Only the top six teams from each group make the postseason, which start May 9. In the A Division 7-1 Andro Elevator, featuring the likes of Brendon Malice, are jostling with Tito Solomon and 6-2 Wok-N-Roll – last year’s B Division winners – for the second seed and a first round bye. Chris Lucas and 4-3 Impressions Beauty Salon, Matthew Bone and 4-3 Duke’s, Cueme Parker’s 3-4 Cronies and Pizza Hut are all vying for the last three spots. The bottom three teams are 1-6 Go Flag Yourself, featuring Michael Carey, 1-6 CrossFit 7Mile, featuring Jamie Stephens and 0-7 Los Terroristas, featuring Joseph Haylock.

The B Division picture is more complicated. The top five seeds are all up for grabs between 6-1 Cayman Auto Diagnostic, behind Simon Rivers, 6-1 Higgs and Johnson, featuring Brad Conolly, 6-1 Computers R Us, with Ernesto Ebanks, 5-2 WestStar, behind Jessica Ebanks and 4-3 Burger King, featuring Gary Rutty. Maples, 3-5 with Rupert Whittaker, are trying to hold off Jerry Beck and 2-5 Kirk Freeport for the sixth and final playoff seed. The bottom clubs are 1-1-5 KPMG, featuring Rob Hendrich, 1-1-6 Walkers with Ellen Downey and 1-6 Wakeboard Cayman, behind Chris LeBeau.
