Running club made Haines feel grand

Derek Haines has received another donation towards the $1 million he is aiming to raise for a new Cayman HospiceCare building by running six marathons this year.

This time the intrepid Haines met Roger Davies, treasurer of the Hash House Harriers, who presented the 65-year-old Englishman with checks totaling $1,000.

Davies said, “The membership is pleased to be able to support the efforts of one of our members and wish Derek the best.”

Haines is pleased with the support of his Monday night running chums. He said,” This is a lovely and welcome donation. We are a small group and this represents a large percentage of our club funds. It seems I was left out of the email circulation so as to completely surprise me.”

Haines’s next challenge is the Pamplona marathon in Spain on June 28 with his daughter Lizzy after completing the Paris and London 26.2 mile runs in successive weeks last month.

The funds have now passed the $375,000 mark.
