Several organizations are gearing up to get families in tip-top shape island-wide to promote International Day of Families on May 15.
The Family Resource Centre and newly established Young Men’s Christian Association have partnered to present an evening of Family Fun Fitness camps in every district to mark the day.
The events are taking place at 6 p.m. at the Bodden Town Civic Centre, Cayman Islands Baptist Church Hall/Park, South Sound Community Centre, John A. Cumber Primary School and East End Civic Centre, and at 6:30 p.m. at the North Side Civic Centre.
Each event will include a group class, followed by circuit training led by the YMCA, an emotional wellness session facilitated by the Family Resource Centre and then a healthy meal provided by a sponsor.
“This will be an awesome opportunity for the whole family to come out and engage in something active and invest in the physical and emotional well-being of their family,” according to a joint statement from the YMCA and the Family Resource Centre.
If there is good turnout, the YMCA has committed to delivering fitness camps in every district on an ongoing basis.
The association is planning on making this a free event, and would appreciate any community sponsors wishing to be involved, organizers said.
Family Fun Fitness camps have shown effectiveness worldwide and have proven to help lower obesity rates and increase overall sense of well-being, the organizers say.
