Man found dead at Treasure Island Resort

A man was found dead Tuesday afternoon in an apartment on Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach after residents complained of a horrible stench emanating from the room.

According to police, the 38-year-old man, identified later as James Dean McLaughlin, was last seen on May 19. His identity was not immediately known, though officers said the man appeared to have been employed on a work permit in the Cayman Islands.

Police found the body in a Treasure Island Resort apartment building occupied by short-term, long-term and vacation renters.

Residents told the Cayman Compass they had complained of an odd smell for days before the body was found in the apartment.

A maintenance man at the resort complex said he was only informed about the foul odor Tuesday.

At press time, police were unable to state how the man died or if the death was suspicious. Police officers were investigating the scene late Tuesday afternoon.

It was also not clear how long the man – believed to be a resident in the second-floor apartment – was dead before his body was discovered.
