KPMG stave off Titans

KPMG A kept their hopes alive for another softball championship.

The accountants defeated the Tower Titans, 16-8, on Monday in the A League final of the Cayman Islands Little League Association’s 2014 Winter Adult Coed Softball League playoffs. With the postseason using a double-elimination format, KPMG had to win to avoid a second defeat and force a winner-take-all contest against the Titans on June 3. The defeat was Tower’s first stumble this campaign, as they went through the regular season unbeaten at 12-0 before scoring two straight playoff wins.

Both rosters have stayed relatively the same over the last three seasons, when the clubs have contended for the top flight crown. Tower rely on the likes of Baron Solomon and Alexis Camacho while KPMG turn to stalwarts such as Richard Campbell and Rob Weins.

In other action this week, Deloitte continued its improbable run with a 11-7 upset of the Lone Star Master Batters. John Marrs and the Deloitte crew were just 5-7 during the season yet find themselves in the B League semifinals.

The heavy rains and flooding of the Field of Dreams last week led to some confusion with the playoff scheduling. As a result, Furius Whelan and Rackam’s Crabbies will end up challenging Alan Markoff and Coors Light Chuggers on May 29 – as opposed to earlier published dates – at 8:15 p.m. on field three. C League contenders NCB Crushers are also in action on May 29 at 8:15 p.m. on field four.

Rob Weins played for KPMG over the years.
