Sunset will build relationship from Houston Dynamo camp

Sunset Football Club is hosting a football camp in conjunction with Major League Soccer team Houston Dynamo next month that could lead to opportunities for the most talented locals.

Sunset is one of the oldest most respected clubs in Cayman, producing some exceptional players over the years, one of them being Tom Elliot, a former Cayman national captain.

The camp is for boys and girls aged between 5 to 16 from Aug. 18 to 21 and will be conducted by Houston Dynamo’s professional coaches.

Sunset has been developing a relationship with Dynamo’s academy to provide a more professional coaching environment for their players. The camp is an example of the cooperation that exists between the two.

Dynamo will allow players to go to Houston for training and Houston bringing teams to Cayman.

Founded in 1978, Sunset has a senior men’s team as well as three boys youth teams and a junior Sunday morning program. The club is also committed to the development of women’s football and has a very successful senior women’s team and a girls Under-15 team.

Sunset’s Head of Youth Development Neil Purton is extremely enthusiastic about the camp and the opportunity this presents to youngsters locally.

The camp will be split into two groups. The sessions for the younger players will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and for the older players from 2-5 p.m. each day.

All sessions are at the Camana Bay Field and the cost is $200 if registered before July 31 and $225 thereafter,
