Sixteen Cuban migrants were in custody Thursday after landing at Spotts Dock in the early morning.
The group had been sighted passing by Cayman Brac on Monday.
Gary Wong, Immigration Department’s head of enforcement, said the Cubans had been taken into custody at the immigration detention facility at Fairbanks and would be processed.
He said the migrants would be offered any medical assistance they required, but none appeared to be in ill health.
Cuban migrants who enter Cayman are held at the center while they wait for their paperwork to be processed. Detained migrants are transported back to Cuba in line with a memorandum of understanding between Cuba and Cayman.
The arrival of the 16 Cubans brings the total number of migrants in immigration custody to 29. Last week, 21 migrants were repatriated to Cuba. Detainees at the facility have complained about the amount of time it takes to process their cases.
