Police on Monday were investigating a burglary in George Town in which the female occupant awoke to find a masked man armed with a knife in her home.
According to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, officers responded to a report of a break-in at an apartment in Spruce Lane around 6 a.m. Monday.
Police said the man stole cash from the premises before making his escape.
The woman, who was not injured in the incident, described the burglar as having dark skin, approximately 6 feet tall and slim.
Police said the woman reported that the man was wearing long jeans pants, a long sleeved shirt and a mask that covered his head and face, leaving only his eyes showing.
Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Spruce Lane and saw anything suspicious around that time to call the George Town Burglary Team on 324-0683/949-4222, the RCIPS tip-line on 949-7777, or Crime Stoppers on 800 8477(TIPS).

I wonder what it will take for someone in authority to understand that we are no longer living in the Cayman Islands of the past and that law abiding citizens should have the right to defend themselves and their families from these criminals. This woman was lucky but one has to ask themselves…. How many women have to be raped? How many people have to be assaulted or killed?
The police are mostly a reactive force in a time when we need to be more proactive about preventing these types of crimes.
