Titans face KPMG in title rematch

Coed softball has a number of entertaining matches on tap for its opening week.

The Cayman Islands Little League Association is launching its 2014 Fall Adult Coed Softball League. Games are taking place at the Field of Dreams and feature most of last season’s champions. The action starts Sept. 1 with a doubleheader at 8 p.m. On Field three, the Coors Light Chuggers battle YMCA We’ve Got The Runs, while the Tower Titans battle KPMG A.

Both contests are rematches of the 2014 spring championship series for the A and B leagues, which went to two games. Ryan Ebanks and the Titans claimed an 11th championship by downing arch-rivals and previous two-time winners Rob Weins and KPMG A. Wil Pineau and the Coors Light Chuggers nabbed their fifth B League title by edging Jordan Stubblefield and YMCA.

On Sept. 2, Rackam’s Crabbies challenge Home Gas at 6:30 p.m. on field three before Deloitte and Dart battle at 8:15 p.m. Rhino Rebar face The A-Team at 8 p.m. on field four. On Sept. 3, the Al La Kebab Hitmen swing for the Geeks at 6:30 p.m. on field three before Master Batters tangle with UBS at 8:15 p.m. Field four pits KPMG A against BritCay at 8 p.m. On Sept. 4, field three sees Walkers against PwC at 6:30 p.m. before Intertrust and Bud Light battle at 8:15 p.m. Maples take on Cayman National All Stars at 8 p.m on field four.

The campaign will feature teams handling 12 regular season games over eight weeks, plus double elimination playoffs. Alan Markoff will once again serve as league coordinator Alan Markoff, with assistance from the association’s program and facility manager Latoya McField. At this point, the competition boasts some 21 squads split over three divisions – which is on par with the usual participation numbers.

The last coed competition, the winter league, wrapped up in June. Aside from the aforementioned winners, James Yonge and the UBS Swingers emerged the C League champions with a dramatic comeback win over Rob Duty and the NCB Crushers.
