Attempted murder charge sent to Grand Court

Wife still in critical condition

A man charged with the attempted murder of his wife appeared in Summary Court on Monday.

George Washington Vaughan, 42, is accused of attempting unlawfully to cause the death of his wife, Lois Hall-Vaughan.

The case was immediately transmitted to the Grand Court.

Magistrate Valdis Foldats noted that such a charge can be dealt with only in the Grand Court, and he directed that Vaughan appear there on Friday, Sept. 19. Defense attorney Dennis Brady did not apply for bail at this time and Vaughan was remanded in custody.

The charge arose from an incident at Mijall Road in Bodden Town on Aug. 12.

Vaughan is also charged with common assault against a different person on Aug. 12, but that matter remained in Summary Court. It was set for mention also on Sept. 19.
