World champs offer free karate

Cayman Karate Academy is offering a free karate class for kids with two special guest instructors, nine-time world champion Christine Bannon–Rodrigues and her black belt teenage son Dante Rodrigues.

They are in Cayman this week to teach Cayman Karate students some techniques at the Best Life Training Centre in Industrial Park and classes are on Saturday.

Academy master instructor Bob Daigle said, “If parents have thought about sending their child to karate to gain confidence, focus and discipline, this is the perfect opportunity.”

Classes are in age groups; 4-5 years old from 3.30–4 p.m., 6-9 years 4-4.45 p.m. and 10 and up from 4.45-5.30 p.m.

The first 10 parents to contact Daigle will also receive an autographed print of Bannon-Rodrigues as Bat Girl. She was the stunt double for Alicia Silverstone in the block buster movie Batman and Robin.

Daigle is a former world champion himself. He said, “I want my students to receive the best training available. That’s why I asked Christine to come back to Cayman and teach this new generation the latest training techniques.

“She was here 17 years ago and gave my students the winning edge not only in competition but in life.”
