The John Gray High School Knights are the current frontrunners on the court.
A 2-0 record has them atop the boys segment of the 2014 Dominos Under-19 Basketball League, organized by the Cayman Islands Basketball Association. The Knights are in action on Oct. 14, facing the 0-2 Game Takers at 6:15 p.m. at the association court off Eastern Avenue.
Knights are coming off a 62-13 thrashing of fellow John Gray team Warriors, 1-1. Bryce Thompson was top scorer for the winners with 18 points and two steals. Teammate Alexandre Brown contributed 12 points. Abdull Patterson and Kamar Scott combined for eight points, 27 rebounds and five steals for the Warriors.
Game Takers previously suffered a 61-31 defeat to the Warriors. Joshua O’Garro was the bright spot for the losing side with 11 points and six rebounds. Patterson exploded for 22 points, nine rebounds and three steals for the Warriors. Teammate Dajon Sibbles contributed 17 points and 18 rebounds while Aaron Roye added 13 points and three steals.
Tuesday’s second contest pits the 1-0 Bodden Town Wolves against the 0-1 Soldiers at 7:30 p.m. Bodden Town destroyed the Game Takers, 118-15, last week. Albis Amaya netted 30 points and 10 rebounds, Jamel Winton had 24 points, Javon Seymour added 18 points and five assists, Duncan Anderson scored 14 points and five rebounds, Justin Collins added 13 points and seven assists and Michael Brooks had 11 points.
O’Garro and Shakeem Wilks combined for eight points and seven rebounds for the Game Takers.
Soldiers, the reigning champions, lost their season opener to the Knights, 61-43. Alex Thompson was the top scorer for the losing team with 10 points. Trevin Williamson scored 21 points and seven rebounds for the Knights, followed by 14 points and six rebounds from James Ebanks and 14 points from Bryce Thompson.
