Trio nets Vanguard kudos

Youth basketball is making fresh strides in Lake Wales, Florida.

Three members of the Cayman Islands national Under-17 basketball team are attending the Vanguard School in Florida. The three young men – Arin Taylor, Franz Manderson Jr. and Juawon Ebanks – are members of the 2014-2015 Panthers men’s basketball team.

Taylor, 16, Manderson Jr., 17, and Ebanks, 16, have been on national squads over the last few years. They have been part of local sides that have competed in Floridian collegiate camps and, most notably, they played for Cayman at the 2012 CentroBasket Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador.

The Vanguard School was founded in 1965 and is a college prep boarding and day school for students in grades 5-12. The campus is located near Legoland, Disney World, and other venues.

Representatives of the Vanguard School will be attending the Caribbean School Fair being held Nov. 16 at the Westin Resort. For more information, call Sunshine Suites at 949-3000 and ask for Jay Wick or Dan Sheppard.
