Netball coaching sessions for boys and girls ages 6 to 11 are held every Saturday morning at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
The Turtle Netters Junior program runs for an hour from 8 a.m. for kids to learn the fundamentals of movement and sport.
Activities and games are held in a structured environment, and basic core principles of agility, balance and coordination are the focus. The sessions also help improve physical activity in a fun way.
The sessions, which have been running for two years, have recently been relaunched by the new technical director, Andrea Gumbs.
“The sessions are a great way for children to learn new skills, meet new friends, have fun as well as plenty of exercise,” Gumbs said. “Numbers are consistent weekly, and there are 30 registered members.”
She added that the children love the small-sided game of High 5 netball, which develops players, umpires, officials, timekeepers and scorers.
Parents have been fully involved and have volunteered at the sessions as well as during the opening ceremony.
“The parents are fully supportive of the children to ensure that they have a fulfilling learning experience,” she said.
The Cayman Islands Netball Association hopes to expand the sessions in all districts on the island. All new players, boys and girls, are welcome.
