Bodden Town won the inaugural President’s Cup last season and will not release their grip on the trophy easily judging by their 1-0 win in the semifinal first leg against Cayman Athletic. Charlo McLean scored BT’s vital goal in the 71st minute, assisted by Ricoh Brown. The second leg is on Feb. 8 at the TE McField Annex.
In the other semifinal first leg on Sunday, Sunset drew 2-2 with Roma United. Paul Hennessey (24th) and Christopher Turrel (85th) were the Sunset scorers and Gawayne Speed (69th) and Zecko Herrera (72nd) were the Roma marksmen.
Hennessey and Speed have both scored six times this season. Cayman Athletic’s David Connolly still leads the scoring chart with 13 goals, followed by Dwayne “Gaza” Wright on 11. Brac’s Denrick Gayle and George Town’s Tex Whitelocke have scored six as well.
The Premier League fixtures this weekend resume with Scholars International against Cayman Brac at the Ed Bush on Saturday, kick off 8 p.m.
BT face George Town at their home ground on Sunday, kick off 5 p.m.
At the TE McField Annex, the early game sees Sunset against Roma again and then Elite Sports Club is matched with Cayman Athletic.
Elite are still league leaders with 24 points after 13 games. Cayman Athletic (22) are second, Scholars (21) third and reigning champs BT (20) fourth.
Sunset (16) are next, followed by Roma (15), George Town (15) and Cayman Brac (7).
