The Barcadere Classic fishing tournament, hosted by the Cayman Islands Angling Club and in aid of the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation is being staged from next week.
It is the seventh staging of the annual tournament. Registration is on March 12 at 7 p.m., poolside at the George Town Yacht Club.
There are over $32,000 in cash and prizes to be had for wahoo, tuna, dolphin, marlin and barracuda. There is a jackpot open to all, as well as prizes for junior and lady anglers.
Entry fee is $300 per boat with a team of four anglers. Jackpot entry is an additional $200.
Fishing days are March 14 and 15 as well as March 21 and 22. Entrants can pick any three of the four days to fish.
The weigh station at the Barcadere Marina and will be open from 4.30-6.30 p.m. on all four competition days.
There will be a silent auction of Guy Harvey artwork to be held during the registration and tournament days. Winners will be announced on the evening of the awards presentation.
Twenty-nine boats competed in last year’s event which featured three big catches – a 58.9-pound yellowfin tuna caught by Carolyn Paffenroth on C Money, a 56.5-pound wahoo by Denise Begg-Smith on SeaBird and a 46.8-pound dolphin by Josh Ebanks on Knotty Buoy.
There will be two after-parties poolside at the George Town Yacht Club on both Saturday nights with DJ Ralph spinning classic calypso, soca, ska and reggae.
The awards presentation will be on March 24 from 7 p.m. in the clubhouse at the George Town Yacht Club.
