Dip then roast to generate cash

The Massive Open Water Relay, a fundraiser for the Cayman Islands national swim teams, will be followed by a CARIFTA 2015 fundraising barbeque.

The relay is on March 14 and is open to all – and if the inaugural 2014 open water relay event is anything to go by it will be a fun-filled afternoon.

The relay will be 4×400 meters for 12&Under teams and 4x800m for all other swimmers. Registration, as well as the race start and finish will be at Governor’s Beach, with registration taking place from 2.30–3.15 p.m. and the race starts at 3.45 p.m. All swimmers are encouraged to put a team together and take part in this entertaining afternoon. For avid swimmers it is one more way to get open water experience. For company wellness committees it will be a great team event or inter-departmental challenge, as there will be a corporate category.

There will be prizes and surprises for all. Massive gift bags for all participants, T-shirts for everyone and awards for the first three teams in all age groups. There will also be a prize for best team spirit and best dressed team.

As is required at all Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association sea swims, caps will be provided for all swimmers and must be worn for the entirety of the races.

CARIFTA Swimming 2015 is in Barbados at Easter and companies or individuals interested in supporting CIASA or the junior national team which will be competing at CARIFTA should contact Michael Lockwood [email protected] or the technical director Bailey Weathers [email protected] for more information on how they can be a part of the Cayman Swimming Family.

For the relay, entries are individual but teams must be organized before and registration will be available on www.caymanactive.com.
