Smith dominant again, but women take it to the wire

Cycling champ Michele “Mitch” Smith won the Cost U Less Circuit Race comfortably on Sunday, two weeks after easily winning the time trial along South Sound.

Smith completed the allotted loops around the 1.4-mile course starting from Cost U Less and through Lime Tree Avenue, then along the Easterly Tibbetts Highway and back on to West Bay Road in 56 minutes, 42.30 seconds.

Second was Ben Creasey, the newcomer who won the Irish Jog last week and who is preparing for the duathlon on May 3.

His time was 58:26.69. David Cooke (58:26.98) was marginally behind, and Laurent Weber (58:40.03) fourth. Then came Pedro Lopez Ramos (59:26.20) and Steve Abbott (59:30.66).

Ceretta Harvey (56:46.26) won the women’s race in a photo-finish on the shorter course against Margot Lares (56:46.33).

Thirty-seven riders started, a great turnout for only the second race of the season.

The next race is a time trial on April 12.
