Suspected hit-and-run driver arrested

A Bodden Town man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident last week in George Town.

The 24-year-old man, who was not named because he had not been charged as of press time, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

The man is suspected of driving the vehicle that ran over and killed 59-year-old Donnie Ray Connor on the Linford Pierson Highway early Thursday, April 23. Police believe Mr. Connor was riding his bicycle on the shoulder of the road when he was struck.

Police said investigators seized a silver Honda they believe was involved in the collision. The vehicle was undergoing a forensic examination and police were still awaiting the results of certain evidence tests on Tuesday, Royal Cayman Islands Police Superintendent Adrian Seales said.

The suspect had not been released under bail conditions at press time Tuesday.
