The Flowers Mile Sea Swim had many sponsors, among them the East End-based Wyndham Reef Resort, which hosted Olympic gold medalist Scott Goldblatt.
Almost 900 registrants took to the waters off Seven Mile Beach for the swim last weekend, which offered $100,000 in prize money and giveaways.
American Goldblatt took gold at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and won a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He placed 40th out of 862 swimmers in Saturday’s event.
Kel Thompson, Wyndham Reef Resort managing director, said the resort’s commitment to community events such as the Flowers Sea Swim is at the heart of the company’s values and culture.
“We are pleased to support events that promote fitness, wellness and community participation, but in addition, an event such as this that draws attention to Cayman’s beautiful beaches, warm water and fabulous weather is a great fit for us,” he said.
The Wyndham also donated a number of prizes for the event.
