Weber finishes like a torpedo

The Foster’s Food Fair 800-meter sea swim saw 133 entrants at Seven Mile Beach on Saturday in the first of the new season’s open water swims.

With many of the age groups being closely contested in the 31st staging of this annual event, Camana Bay Aquatic Cub’s Eddie Weber was first across the finish line in 9 minutes, 43 seconds. He finished a full 21 seconds ahead of second-place John Bodden (10:04) of Stingray Swim Club.

Jonathan Key (10:08) was third. Holly Stradling (CBAC) was the first woman to finish in 11:15, Ria Plunkett was the second female over the line in 11:16, and Stefanie Booth was third in 11:22.

“It was great to be on the beach and back in the sea,” said Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association president Michael Lockwood.

“Thank you to everyone who volunteered or assisted with the event, contributing to its success and to Foster’s Food Fair and the Foster Family who continue to support open water swimming.”

Foster’s Food Fair managing director Woody Foster swam the course and also handed out trophies to the top finishers in each age category.
