Bullets strike vehicle, building

Gunshots fired in the early morning hours Saturday struck a vehicle and a building in George Town’s Scranton neighborhood, Royal Cayman Islands Police reported.

No injuries were reported. Police said the call was reported around 3:30 a.m. on Martin Drive. Officers who responded to check the area found a Suzuki SUV with bullet holes in it. A building nearby had also been struck by the gunfire.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call George Town CID at 949-4222 or Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS) to remain anonymous.

What will it take for us to acknowledge that we have a serious problem with violent crime in the Cayman Islands and that something needs to be done to allow innocent law abiding people to protect themselves from these criminals? Who is it that needs to be the victim of these monsters before bold action is taken?

    The RCIPS is mostly a reactive operation and is mostly about investigating these types of crimes after they have happened. We need to be more proactive and take steps to allow people to be in a position where they can prevent themselves from becoming victims of violent crime.
