Breezes Fusion run for two charities

Athletes preparing for the Cayman marathon get another chance to limber up, at the Breeze Fusion three mile walk/run this Saturday.

This is the ninth staging of the annual fundraiser for the National Council for Voluntary Organisations. The second charitable recipient this year is Meals on Wheels.

Starting at 6:30 a.m. from Smith Cove, the course goes through the residential neighborhoods of South Church Street, Melmac Avenue, Walkers Road and South Sound.

From its humble beginnings in 2007, the Breeze Fusion walk/run will see participants competing over the three-mile course, followed by the much shorter children’s race and overall awards presentation.

It’s anticipated that 2014 winner Bruce Mangacam and female champ Joanna Mansi will be out to defend their titles.

Once again, this year’s patron is Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, who has become a familiar face in distance races, as he encourages civil servants and members of the community to become more active and supportive of charitable events.

Organized by Radio Cayman/Breeze FM and the Phoenix Athletic Club, timing will be done this year by Derek Larner’s Race Caribbean.

Island Taste will also be selling breakfast items on site, feeding the hungry athletes after their run while awaiting the awards presentation.

Event registration is $20 for adults, $10 for students under 16 and is ongoing at and
