Charges laid in pedestrian's death

A man facing two charges relating to the death of pedestrian Marcia Donaldson in April appeared in Summary Court on Monday.

Donovan Kellyman, 25, of a George Town address, is charged with causing the death of Ms. Donaldson by careless driving. A second charge is driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and causing death.

Initial police reports referred to Ms. Donaldson as walking or jogging at the time of the incident, which was reported shortly before 5 a.m.

Details alleged that the defendant unlawfully drove along South Sound Road on April 24 without due care and attention and without reasonable consideration of others and in so doing caused the death of the pedestrian.

The second set of details allege that Kellyman drove after consuming alcohol in such quantity that his alcohol-in-blood reading was 0.120, and by so doing caused Ms. Donaldson’s death. The legal limit in Cayman is 0.100.

The defendant had been on police bail. Magistrate Grace Donalds extended bail until his next court appearance, on Jan. 11. His attorney received disclosure from Crown counsel Stacy Ann Kelly.
