Party with a purpose: Annual Mistletoe event

It will be all white on the night at the eighth annual Mistletoe Party at Abacus on Friday, if the promises match up to the truly great times of previous years. So wear your best winter whites and head off to The Paseo, Camana Bay for fun times and fabulous food and drinks, all for a good cause.

The upscale themed event aims to attract a wide range of ages from the over 20s upward, and is set to be a night of dancing with your shoes off, eating “til you can’t eat no mo,” drinking … well you get the idea, right?

No need to be bothered with the hassle of tickets. Paying $25 a head at the door gains you and your friends entry into the party of the year.

Look under the heading “Festive Fun with Friends” and you’ll see that the annual Mistletoe Party starts at 5 p.m. and closes out at 3 a.m. Held in Abacus’s roomy lounge area and out on The Paseo, the restaurant is a great setting for this party with a purpose.

A share of the proceeds will go to Cayman HospiceCare. Last year’s event attracted 1,200 attendees and donated in excess of $8,000 to the Feed our Future charity. It is hoped that this year even more money can be raised for Cayman HospiceCare.

Food and drink

This year, partygoers can look forward to enjoying a mountain of a la carte fare, including ever-popular tapas and plenty of exquisite garden-to-table plus ocean-to-plate dishes, accompanied by the restaurant’s signature cocktails, wines and Champagne – either by the bottle or by the glass – and all reasonably priced.

The all-white lounge party will also be hosting seven drinks bars, serving patrons from 6-10 p.m.

As well as having put plenty of thought into the food and beverage options at the event, a lot of work has gone into transforming the restaurant and the area outside into a festive, wintry space.

Dora Feher, special events planner at Celebrations, said, “[We] will be creating a magical frosted wonderland featuring [a] Champagne bar and a Cuban rum and cigar lounge. The Champagne bar will be glamorous, raining sparkles and crystals; the chic cigar lounge will feature a live cigar roller; Audi will also be displaying their latest [car] models; and lanterns will reign overhead, adding the final touch to another whimsical elegant evening.”

DJ Smoke, one of Jamaica’s baddest selectas, will be flying over to keep things lively with a cross-selection of tunes. Get there early or get there late, he aims to keep everyone up and kickin’ it along The Paseo with the newest in house, techno R‘n’B and choice oldies.

Another high point of the night is expected to be an artistic pole-dancing show, staged by a mixed troupe of professionals at 10 p.m.

Giving back

Markus Mueri, owner of nmVentures group, said, “Abacus particularly enjoys staging the annual Mistletoe Party. It gives us the chance to bring together the best in food and entertainment in Grand Cayman for a one-night event that also gives back to the community.”

Danielle Coleman, director of operations and development at Cayman HospiceCare, said, “We are utterly thrilled to be the chosen charity of this year’s Annual Mistletoe White Party.

“Proceeds from the evening will go directly to ensuring that we at Cayman HospiceCare can continue to provide medical, spiritual and social care to any person coping with an end-stage terminal disease in the Cayman Islands at no cost to our patients or their families.”
