The National Trust for the Cayman Islands invites supporters to dress up as their favorite historical character, or wear a historical hat at its third annual “Hatitude” gala from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Proceeds from the “Brunch Upon a Time” fundraiser at Grand Old House will help the Trust to continue to provide a range of tours, field trips, lectures, workshops and educational activities, and outreach events for the public.
“Even though the Trust works to protect historic and environmental sites, sometimes it’s easy to forget we are doing so to secure a better future for Cayman,” said the Trust’s Executive Director Christina Pineda.
“As such, we wanted to develop a fundraising event that was fresh and relevant, to engage a wider demographic within the community, and hopefully help them to learn a bit more about our important work and the benefits of becoming a Trust member,” she added.
All guests will be treated to free samples of Banana Orchid perfume by local fragrance designer Ted Green. According to the organizers, the brunch’s décor will be whimsical to match the theme. The Trust has also hired a photographer to capture the spirit of the event.
As part of the pre-event happenings, online bidding is open for fascinators by 10 local artists in the Ready, Steady, Bid auction until Monday, via the Trust’s Facebook page.
Novices wanting to learn about hat-making so that they can make one for the fundraiser, can sign up for Laura Anderton’s weekend workshop at Dart Family Park with a Champagne closing reception on Saturday and Sunday. Attendees will get to design a hat and to buy the milliner’s handmade fascinators. The workshop costs $70 per day. Interested parties can register by emailing [email protected]
“We are excited to celebrate history in a creative way through our ‘Brunch Upon a Time,’” said Trust Marketing Manager Danielle Watler.
“We are looking forward to seeing the creative costumes and hats that our guests will be displaying on event day and we are sure that the ‘Most Hatitude’ competition will be epic this year.”
Tickets for the buffet brunch with endless Prosecco are $75 for Trust members, and $100 for non-members, and are available at the Trust’s retail store in Dart Family Park in South Sound. A corporate table (10 seats) costs $500, which includes two bottles of Veuve Clicquot Champagne, six Glow Run passes, four tour passes for the Mastic Trail and Mission House and six Families in the Wild passes.
