Valentine’s Event Guide for 2016

Valentine’s themed events happen island-wide in the days and weeks surrounding Feb. 14. Whether you feel it’s a Hallmark or heartfelt holiday, here are a few examples of what’s on offer for couples, friends, or families wishing to celebrate.

Hotel and stand-alone spas offer a plethora of pampering treatments year-round which are perfect for couples to enjoy, or as a relaxing gift to a loved one. Some spas are also offering special Valentine’s themed packages.

Eclipze Hair Design & Day Spa is offering two special Valentine’s Day promotions. “Cupid’s Delight” includes a 30 minute back, neck and shoulder massage and 15-minute head massage with a glass of bubbles for $110 per couple; and “Cupid’s Escape” includes a facial, eye treatment and gel manicure with a glass of bubbles for $135. Let’s Get Saucy Cooking Class

If you’re planning on cooking for your loved one this Valentine’s Day, Bon Vivant has the perfect event to get you prepared for a meal with extra oomph. The Let’s Get Saucy class, held by chef Dylan Benoit, will teach all the necessary skills to make a variety of sauces, from stock and pan sauces, to aioli, hollandaise and crème Anglaise. In order to spread the love over more than just one day, why not usher in Valentine’s Day with a romantic meal in the days preceding. Every Wednesday from 5:30-10 p.m. Ortanique hosts a three-course dinner for two, with a glass of house wine or bubbles, and guests also receive two tickets to Regal Cinemas all for a price of $90 per couple. For those who prefer to eat at a restaurant on Valentine’s weekend, The Bistro is offering a special six-course menu including a complimentary glass of bubbles, on either Feb. 13 or 14 for $75. ‘Love Letters’ by A.R. Gurney

Starring husband and wife team Peter and Mary Anne Kosa, the play “Love Letters” tells the story of former childhood friends Andrew Makepeace III and Melissa Gardner, through letters and cards they exchange over 50 years.

Moonlight & Movies

A special romantic theme will feature in Camana Bay’s Moonlight & Movies series in the run up to Valentine’s Day. Attendees can watch one, or all, of three romantic comedies from a restaurant surrounding the screen, or have a romantic picnic on the lawn.

“Stardust” will be shown on Feb. 11, “Footloose” will be shown on Feb. 12, and “Beauty and the Beast” will be shown on Feb. 13. Screenings begin at 7 p.m.

Valentine’s Kids Disco
Starfish Village, Camana Bay
Feb. 12
Children can also join in the fun around Valentine’s Day, and Starfish Village is providing the perfect venue for a children’s disco, complete with dinner and drinks provided. Email [email protected] to register. The cost is $25 per child or $20 for siblings.

Me & My Love Duo

Another way for kids to join in the fun is by joining their mom or dad for a cooking class, especially enjoyable when the main ingredient in the class is chocolate. If you’re going to be buying flowers for loved ones this Valentine’s Day, you could be repaid for your kindness with a free dinner at one of Cayman’s most romantic restaurants. Foster’s customers who purchase Valentine’s flowers to the value of $20 or more by Feb. 13 will be entered into a draw to win dinner for two at Ristorante Pappagallo. The draw takes place on Feb. 15. Sticking with the floral theme, a handcrafted Love Frame, covered in hundreds of flowers, will feature in the hotel lobby at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. A perfect backdrop for photos you will frame later, or Instagram immediately using the hashtag #RCMemories.

Dinner with a Goddess

Lola is hosting a Valentine’s Eve dinner on Saturday. Consisting of five goddess-inspired components, guests will begin with a glass of Lola Champagne, followed by four food courses, with dish choices such as gazpacho with blue crab claw meat, melted goats cheese fritters, butter-poached Maine lobster, beef rib eye and a chocolate mousse and passion fruit sorbet to finish. Valentine’s Mile

For those who like to be active and raise money for the community, the Valentine’s Mile allows people to walk or run a mile, beginning and ending at Bayshore Mall. Entry proceeds go to the NCVO’s Foster Home and participants receive a T-shirt while supplies last, and entry to a raffle. An under-10 race takes place at 4:30 p.m. The main walk begins at 4 p.m. and entry fees are $15 for adults, $5 for under 18, and free for the under-10s children’s race.
