Elderly man attacked on bus

Police are hunting two men who assaulted a 71-year-old man on a public bus Sunday.

Police said two officers on patrol on North West Point Road in West Bay were informed shortly before 2 p.m. that the elderly man had been attacked on the bus.

According to a release from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, the man had been riding in a beige Toyota Hiace public bus when he was punched by two young men.  “The motive for the assault is unclear,” police said.

Police said the two young men boarded another bus before the police officers arrived. Officers later learned that the men had disembarked from that bus in the vicinity of Leda’s Shop on Watercourse Road.

The victim was taken to West Bay Police Station where an ambulance was called for him.  He was treated at the hospital and later released.

One of the attackers is described as tall, of fair complexion, with short hair and wearing a red shirt and khaki-colored pants. The second man was short, of fair complexion, with dreadlocks, and wearing a black shirt and black pants.

Officers are requesting anyone with information to call Sergeant Anthony Hill at the West Bay Police Station at 649-3999 or contact Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS), or online at this link: https://www.tipsubmit.com/WebTips.aspx?AgencyID=681.
