The Cayman Islands Netball Association recently held a raffle to raise money for a minibus to help transport school girls to and from practices and games. After the $15,000 in prizes were distributed, the association had $10,000 to put toward the minibus, organizers said.

Several prize winners donation a portion back to the association, which still needs another $10,000 to buy the bus and operate it.

In addition to providing safe transport for young players in Cayman, the bus will also be used to transport traveling teams if the island hosts national competitions.

Other initiatives by the association include traveling to Jamaica for friendly matches for under-12/14 and under-16 groups. The under-16 Caribbean Tournament will be held in Trinidad between March 30 and April 6, 2017, and Cayman would like to be represented, organizers said.

A Netball Day in the planning stages for Nov. 26, will showcase the under-10, 12, 14, and 16 age groups, and seniors.
