The Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants elected a new council at its annual general meeting and announced its plans for 2017.

This year’s elected council members are James George, Baron Jacob, Craig Smith, Joel Dodson, Mike Mannisto, Francois Lamontagne, Chris Gauk, Serge Berube, Peter Small, Rennie Khan, Ben Leung, Odette Samson, David Walker and Simon Conway.

The appointed officers are Peter Small, president; Joel Dodson, vice president; and Mike Mannisto, secretary.

Outgoing President Serge Berube outlined CIIPA’s accomplishments during the previous year, including reaching 1,100 members; a $25,000 donation to the Ministry of Education’s mathematics program; recognizing 27 young Caymanians, four of whom who attained their accounting qualifications and 23 who earned either a bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting.

Mr. Small said CIIPA will focus this year on its successful “We’re Here” marketing campaign, showcasing the myriad local roles available within the accounting industry for qualified professionals. The organization also plans to carry on with its careers and mentoring program – a volunteer scheme that pairs CIIPA members with students at ICCI and UCCI.

“This year, particularly, we look forward to working more closely with ICCI in their ‘Smarten Up’ enrollment campaign in order to encourage young Caymanians to further their education,” Mr. Small said.
