Police recovered a rusty-looking handgun containing one bullet in the vicinity of Smith Cove Wednesday, after a member of the public spotted the weapon.
Officers responded to the report of the weapon being found around 1 p.m.
Police said the gun was the ninth firearm recovered this year, not including the 18 firearms that were handed in during a weapons amnesty run by police throughout the month of June.
