Power outages across Grand Cayman.

Update 5:30 PM: Thousands of customers across Grand Cayman lost power Tuesday morning for about an hour.

According to the Caribbean Utilities Company, initial investigations point to “a loss of generation in one of the engine rooms.”

The power went out at 6:19 a.m. and the 15,088 customers affected were restored at 7:05 a.m., CUC spokeswoman Pat Bynoe-Clarke said.

Original story: Much of Grand Cayman awoke for work or school Tuesday morning to find their homes without power.

A CUC outage map indicated more than 10,000 customer were without power as of 7:35 a.m., down from a peak of 16,000 earlier in the morning.

Dark blue on the CUC map denotes 1-9 customers affected while purple indicates more than 500 affected.

Outages ranged from West Bay to North Side.
