Expo spotlights small businesses

Small businesses and government departments will be on full display at the Small Business Expo on Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Regatta Office Park. The event aims to increase the public’s awareness of the small and micro businesses on island, provide an opportunity for small business owners to network, and to educate and motivate participants.

“I encourage the public to come out to the expo to see all that our small and micro businesses have to offer,” said Minister for Commerce Joseph Hew.

“As a small business owner myself, I know every step forward helps. Having the opportunity to network and meet with customers helps entrepreneurs to gain insights and gives us better ideas and information on how to thrive in a competitive atmosphere.”

He said the small business sector makes a valuable contribution to the economy and provides jobs and other opportunities to the local workforce.

“Government is committed to supporting the growth and success of small businesses,” he added.

The event is hosted and organized by the Cayman Islands Small Business Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure, as well as Dart Real Estate, Yello Media Group, Cayman National and DHL.

Attendees will be able to take part in presentations on marketing, websites, Google display and AdWords, as well as a new health insurance product designed for small businesses.

“We’re really excited about this year’s event,” said Dawn McLean-Brady, president of the Small Business Association. “We’ll have booths both indoors and outdoors, which will allow us to showcase even more businesses than we have in the past. It is truly a great opportunity for residents to learn more about all the great services and products you can find right here on island, and be part of growing our small business sector.”

The expo is set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Regatta Office Park, Leeward One building from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
