Police are seeking witnesses who may have seen an assault on a woman at Smith Cove in the early hours of Sunday, Nov. 18. A 31-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of the assault.

Officers were dispatched to the beach on Sunday morning, where it was reported that a man had become physically aggressive to the woman and prevented her from leaving. Police said a struggle ensued, during which the man struck the woman in the face.

Other people at the beach called police, but the man had left the area in a vehicle by the time officers arrived.

Police subsequently located the man, who lives in George Town.
