The annual Butterfield open water 800m sea swim attracted more than 130 participants this year.
The event, organised by Cayman Islands Aquatic Sports Association, was held on Saturday at Governors Beach.
Although slightly overcast, the weather and sea conditions were ideal for the swim, organisers said, and plenty of supporters turned out to cheer on the swimmers from shore.
First across the finish line was John Michael Bodden in a time of 9 minutes, 53 seconds, followed by Liam Henry (10:06) and Alex Dakers (10:07).
The first place female finisher was Raya Embury-Brown (10:25).
“It was a great afternoon of swimming, a wide variety of participants of both young and old,” said Duke Sullivan, the open water director with the Cayman Islands Aquatic Sports Association. “We had 134 participants, which was a great turnout leading up to the Flowers Sea Swim.”
He added, “The sea was relatively calm, and good conditions for swimming.”
Bailey Weathers, the association’s technical director of swimming, said “a pretty good mix of people”, took part in the event.
Next up on the open water swim calendar is the Flowers One-Mile Sea Swim on 15 June.
