The Breast Cancer Foundation has launched its new-look website, based on the UK Macmillan Cancer Centre website, as a comprehensive source of physical, emotional and financial support to help people with cancer live their lives as fully as possible.
The new Breast Cancer Foundation website includes information on the charity’s wellness programme, support groups and patient assistance, as well as vital information about breast cancer itself, such as types of breast cancer, diagnosis and treatment, lymphoedema, and signs and symptoms, according to a press release from the foundation.
The support section includes information on awareness, medical services, mammograms, wigs, cancer registry, and resources for residents in Cayman Brac.
“The emphasis of the new Breast Cancer Foundation website is to not only inform anyone living in the Cayman Islands who has breast cancer with all of the free services we offer but for anyone supporting someone with breast cancer or worried themselves about breast cancer. It’s a one-stop reliable site for information that relates directly to those living here in Cayman,” said Janette Fitzgerald, chief administrator of Breast Cancer Foundation of Cayman, in the press release.
Dr. Ginny Hobday, the Breast Cancer Foundation’s medical director, said the new website “is easily navigated and provides important information which can be quickly obtained”.
She added, “The medical information is based on the well-respected Macmillan cancer programme in the UK. The dedication of the BCF team to the Cayman community is evident in this website. Their mission is to educate, encourage early detection, and guide and support patients through treatment.
“My hope is that every breast cancer patient and their family will use this excellent resource to empower themselves and dispel the fear of the unknown and know that BCF is there for them every step of the way. I hope too it will encourage volunteers and vital donations.”
Another aim of the website is to raise awareness of breast cancer in the Cayman community.
Kim Lund, co-founder and board member of the foundation, said, “The Cayman Islands has a high incidence of breast cancer in particular and age is not a barrier. The more information and resources we can provide the better we can serve our entire community.”
His fellow co-founder James Bovell described how the new site also features a direct donate button for those who wish to assist, as well as details on the foundation’s past and upcoming fundraising events.
“It’s not just about donations, people and businesses can learn more about how to get involved with the Foundation as well,” he said in the release.
The services of the Breast Cancer Foundation are free for all breast cancer patients and survivors residing in the Cayman Islands, along with their close family members.
