Family and friends of Carlos Luyang Patricio paid tribute to the 37-year-old on Monday, as he was named by police as the person who died in Saturday night’s fatal car crash on South Church Street.
He was a Philippines national who resided in Grand Cayman, police said, as they expressed condolences to his family and friends.
Patricio had worked at Tony’s Toys Automotive Center for three years.
“He originally came to work with us with a carwash company, but after we saw his attention to detail and his skills, we decided to take him on full time,” said Tony Williams, the owner of Tony’s Toys.
Williams said Tony’s Toys has been in business for 22 years, and Patricio is the first employee to have passed.
“He was a part of the Tony’s Toys family, and since his death, one of his friends has been crying all day,” Williams said.
“I even had a customer call me in tears, saying that she could recall the many conversations she had with him as he shuttled her to and from the company when she got her car serviced,” he added.
He reflected, “To have not just a staff member in tears, but a customer, speaks volumes about the kind of person he was.”
That sentiment was shared in a post from the company on Facebook.
“Words cannot express the shock and sadness that we are feeling today,” the tribute reads, adding: “We will miss him terribly and our thoughts and prayers are with the rest of his family and friends.”
Four other people involved in the collision remained in hospital Monday in serious but stable condition, police said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit and police are asking anyone with information to contact the unit at 649-6254 or the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.
