Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Lee reported an additional 14 community cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Speaking in a video update, Lee said there were also three additional positives in travellers, out of a total of 997 PCR tests conducted since Monday.

Referring to the two people who have previously been admitted to hospital, Lee stated they were both in stable condition and neither required ventilator support.

One of those people has been in hospital since early September; the other is a recent admission who has “a number of health issues”, Lee explained.

Lee added that, to date, 110,629 vaccinations have been administered, 96 more shots than recorded yesterday.

Of that total, 55,905 represent first doses, which covers 79% of the total estimated population of the jurisdiction, and marks an increase of just 18 doses on Monday’s numbers.

In addition, 53,572 people have completed the two-dose course.

Out of the total population, 6% of those over 50 years old have been given a third, or booster, dose, which equates to 1,152 people.

“Please can I remind everyone to make sure they use masks when in indoor spaces, attend to hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette (sneezing into your sleeve or a tissue and disposing of that) and distancing as well. It’s really vital you do these simple things to help reduce the risk of transferring or transmitting this coronavirus,” Lee said at the end of the video message.

HSA widens eligibility criteria for booster shots

Meanwhile, the Health Services Authority announced that, from Tuesday, people aged over 50 are eligible to get a booster shot.

“We are pleased with the rollout of the booster programme to date and now extend the opportunity for persons aged fifty and above to enhance their immunity against COVID-19. As we contend with community transmission here in the Cayman Islands, we encourage all who are eligible for vaccination to come forward and protect themselves,” Medical Officer of Health Dr. Samuel Williams-Rodriguez said in the press release from the HSA.

Anyone deemed “clinically vulnerable”, in addition to those receiving a first or second vaccine dose, are able to attend the clinic at any time.

The full vaccination schedule can be found here.
