Anyone with a finger on the pulse of Cayman Islands current events knows there’s one thing that has been dominating the news cycle as of late.
No, not the 20 Nov. border reopening date announced by Government on Friday.
But rather, a racoon that escaped a shipping container last week and has been on the lam ever since. News stories regarding the whereabouts of Cayman’s most wanted mammal have sparked a variety of memes and the Compass wants to share them with you.
While we don’t want to downplay the risk an invasive species poses to Cayman’s native flora and fauna — the DoE is still looking for the racoon, by the way — we also don’t want to pass up the opportunity to have a laugh with some of the best racoon memes and photoshop jobs we’ve seen.

I feel like I live in fantasy land sometimes. 😂
On a day when we finally got news about a firm border reopening date after being closed for 19 months, the most popular news story is a rogue raccoon that was a stowaway on a container ship and is now on the loose in Cayman. pic.twitter.com/v7Y3iGcHuF

Someone on compass pages asked if the raccoon was vaccinated and got travel cayman approval and I – I can’t stop laughing
