The majority of Cayman’s 320 active COVID-19 cases are showing signs of the coronavirus, the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health and Wellness have revealed.

A total of 204 people, of the 320 active cases, are reportedly symptomatic, while 116 do not have any signs of the virus.

As of Monday night, Cayman had recorded 1,279 cases of the virus, 83 of which were announced by Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee in his report earlier in the day.

A total of 81 of those cases reported on Monday were community transmissions, including 13 children who tested positive since Friday’s report. The other two were positives in travellers.

“That’s around an average of 27 people positive per day over the weekend,” Lee said in his video message.

According to the stats, two individuals are hospitalised and 51 are unvaccinated.

The Cayman Compass reached out to Government Information Services for details on the most common symptoms being reported and if these are mild. No update was provided by publication time.

The Health Ministry said Monday night that Public Health authorities are “monitoring the level of hospitalisations and severe symptoms as compared to the overall number of positive cases”.

Lee reminded the public of the importance of staying at home, if positive, in order to slow the rate of progression of the virus through the community.

As of Monday night, 1,458 people were in isolation.

Elsewhere on Monday, the ‘Isolation Support Call Centre’ became active, a Cayman Islands Government Facebook post announced.

Call centre operating hours
  • Mon-Fri: 9am-4pm
  • Sat: 9am-1pm
  • On Saturdays (after 1pm) & Sundays, urgent requests will be diverted to the HMCI duty officer.

The operating hours of the call centre are Monday to Friday: 9am-4pm; Saturday: 9am-1pm.

On Saturdays (after 1pm) and Sundays, urgent requests will be diverted to the Hazard Management Cayman Islands duty officer.

“The Isolation Support Call Centre aims to assist with receiving and processing requests for humanitarian food (groceries) assistance for vulnerable persons who have been directed by Public Health to isolate due to actual or potential exposure to COVID-19 within the Cayman Islands. This assistance is mainly the provision and delivery of groceries,” the post added.

The initiative is facilitated through collaboration between, among others, HMCI, Cayman Islands Red Cross, Foster’s supermarket, Public Health, Health Services Authority, Community Emergency Response Teams, and the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps.
