While the spike in community COVID-19 cases continues to be a concern, Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Lee said hospitalisations due to the virus have been “relatively steady” over the last 10 days to two weeks.
“Do not think they are static, they are changing all the time,” Lee said Thursday at the government press briefing.
He pointed that over the last 24 hours at the Health Services Authority three people were admitted and three were discharged.
Lee said 20 people remain in hospital, 16 patients at the Cayman Islands Hospital and four at Health City Cayman Islands.
Out of the people hospitalised, one is on a ventilator.
Of those patients requiring supplementary oxygen, seven are at the Cayman Islands Hospital and one is at Health City Cayman Islands.
He said since the start of the community outbreak, more than 50 people have been admitted but, equally, more than 40 have been discharged.
“The numbers are constantly moving,” Lee said.

As at 8am on Thursday, 206 positive results were recorded out of 1,357 PCR tests conducted since 8am on Wednesday.
Of these tests, 205 were from the community and one was a traveller.
Lee said though he was pleased that the relatively high figure of community cases remained steady, “obviously, we hope it will begin to drop off in a few weeks time”.
He said if it remains steady, then “we are currently managing it well”.
These results brought the number of active cases of COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands to 3,673, or 5% of the population, as at 8am on Thursday, taking the total confirmed cases to 5,362 as at the same time.
As at 8am Thursday, 5,098 people were in quarantine either in government isolation facilities or at home.
The Public Health Department, through a Health Ministry statement, also confirmed that up to 8am on Thursday, there have been 1,472 positive lateral flow tests since the introduction of that testing programme, which were included in the total positive numbers issued Thursday.
Lee said 57 of these test results were included in Thursday’s report.
In addition, as of 8am on Thursday, 18 Nov., Faith Hospital confirmed there were 52 active COVID cases in the Sister Islands, with one identified in the previous 24 hours.
To date, there had been 106 total cases recorded in the Sister Islands, with 54 of those recovered. Out of the total number of cases in the Sister Islands, 55 were fully vaccinated, six were partially vaccinated, and 45 were unvaccinated.
According to the latest report, 120,636 COVID-19 vaccinations were administered in total in the Cayman Islands. Of these, 57,558 people, or 81% of an estimated 71,106 population, had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 55,352 individuals, or 78%, had completed the two-dose course.
Additionally, 8,170 people or 11% of the total population had received a third, or booster, dose.
