The latest update on COVID numbers in Cayman shows 176 new cases, bringing the total number of active cases in the islands to 4,140.
Of the new cases, all but one involve community transmission.
As of Wednesday morning, there were 28 people with the virus in hospital, one fewer than on Tuesday, according to the statistics released by Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Lee.
At that time, there were 4,192 people in isolation either in government isolation facilities or at home.
The Public Health department confirmed that up to 8am Wednesday, 1,691 positive cases had been identified through rapid lateral flow tests since the introduction of the lateral flow test programme in the Cayman Islands.
As of 8am Tuesday, according to Faith Hospital on Cayman Brac, there were 14 active cases in the Sister Islands, with one person testing positive for COVID in the previous 24 hours.
To date, 108 cases in total have been recorded in the Sister Islands. Of those, 94 have recovered. Out of the total number of cases in the Sister Islands, 56 were fully vaccinated, six were partially vaccinated, and 46 were unvaccinated, officials said.
Since the pandemic began, a total of 6,459 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across the Cayman Islands. Of those, 2,315 have recovered and four have died.
Vaccinations
As of 8am Wednesday, 122,920 COVID-19 vaccinations had been administered locally.
Of these, 57,874 people – or 81% of the estimated population of 71,106 – had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 55,751 individuals (78%) had completed the two-dose course.
Additionally, 9,739 people, representing 14% of the population, had received a third or booster dose.
