Police subdued a 21-year-old Bodden Town man with a taser after he allegedly kicked and struck officers as they were trying to arrest him for disorderly conduct, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, firearms officers at a car checkpoint on Shamrock Road, near Armstrong Drive, stopped an approaching vehicle on Monday evening, 22 Nov.
“When officers attempted to speak to the driver of the vehicle, the front seat passenger began to act in a loud and aggressive manner, and obstructed the officers’ attempts to carry out their duties,” the RCIPS said.
When the officers informed the man that he was being arrested for disorderly conduct, “the man refused to exit the vehicle and resisted the officers’ attempts to restrain him, while kicking and striking at the officers,” police said. “As a result, a taser was deployed and discharged by the officers.”
The man was arrested for disorderly conduct, obstructing police, resisting arrest, and assaulting police.
He has been granted bail as investigations continue.
