Two Bodden Town men are facing several charges, including drug trafficking, after a quantity of cocaine was seized on a vessel off Grand Cayman on Sunday.
Police, in a short statement Wednesday afternoon, said the men were arrested just after 11pm Sunday.
The statement said the RCIPS Air Operations Unit, together with Cayman Islands Coast Guard, were conducting border security patrols when they stopped and searched a vessel approximately 31 nautical miles south of Grand Cayman.
During the search of the vessel, police said, a number of packages believed to contain cocaine were found and seized.
The two men on board the vessel, ages 30 and 31, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the importation of cocaine.
Both men, and their vessel, were taken to Grand Cayman.
Police said, following further investigations on Tuesday, 23 Nov., the two men were jointly charged with illicit trafficking and being concerned in the importation of cocaine.
The 31-year-old man was further charged with possession of unlicensed firearms (ammunition).
Both men appeared in Summary Court Wednesday and were remanded in custody pending a further court appearance.
