Visual Arts Society prepares for market at Camana Bay

Members of the Visual Arts Society hope to see a good turnout on Saturday.

The Visual Arts Society is hosting its annual Christmas Arts and Craft Sale on Saturday, 11 Dec. from 10 am to 5 pm along the Paseo at Camana Bay.

With social distancing restrictions in place, the market will be limited to 13 tents, but will feature 26 participating artists showcasing their wares. Festive decorative tables covered in a variety of art and crafts will offer consumers a unique shopping experience full of great gift ideas.

VAS is a non-profit organisation, made up of over 70 local artists, and promotes ‘Art for Everyone’.

There will be 13 tents with 26 vendors selling local art and crafts at the VAS market.

The society offers weekly classes and workshops throughout the year, teaching students – among other skills – how to use a pottery wheel to create ceramic treasures, as well as other tools or hand techniques to build with clay. Its current kiln, after 15 years of use, needs to be replaced, and therefore VAS will be holding a raffle to help raise funds towards the purchase of a new kiln. Tickets will be on sale under the Observation Tower from 10am to 5pm, with a chance to win a locally-made item donated by the participating art vendors.

Mark Muckenfuss, who instructs the ceramic workshop, will be at the market on Saturday, demonstrating his pottery wheel skills. People are encouraged to stop by and watch him work to see how fun it is, and learn more about VAS ceramics.

Mary McCallum, event coordinator, said, “The Visual Arts Society is sincerely grateful for the sponsorships in kind from Camana Bay, allowing [it] to continue with this annual event. The VAS artists look forward to contributing to the Island Christmas Spirit.”
