Camana Bay’s 10-storey commercial building, 60 Nexus Way, has received a sustainability rating of LEED® Silver certification.

LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council and is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. Through design, construction and operational practices that support environmental and human health, LEED-certified buildings enable occupants to operate responsibly and provide healthier, more comfortable spaces for the people who live and work in them.

Projects earn LEED certification points by adhering to prerequisites and credits across nine measurements for building excellence – from integrative design to human health to material use.

Chris Lennon, Dart’s senior vice president commercial, said: “Sustainability is at the forefront of our design, cost and construction decisions. These include decisions around targeted water savings, energy efficiency, use of sustainable building materials, waste reduction and enhancing the quality of the indoor environment for our customers.

“Achieving this certification is an important acknowledgement of our various teams’ work.”

The 60 Nexus Way building features more than 200,000 square feet of office space with industrial design and island flair layered throughout, while common spaces are fitted with tactile textures, natural materials and vibrant colours. The building is home to high-profile tenants, including Appleby, Deloitte and JTC, as well as The London and Amsterdam Trust Company Ltd. 60 Nexus Way also features a LEED-certified tenant office fit-out and the Deloitte office fit-out, done in conjunction with global design and architecture firm Gensler and Dart, received an International Property Award.

“We are proud to provide best-in-class commercial spaces that create an exceptional experience for our tenants at Camana Bay,” said Kristy Rivers, Dart’s senior vice president of sales and leasing. “Our facilities are thoughtfully-designed to do more than house businesses – they help them flourish.

“Developments like 60 Nexus Way and our broader Camana Bay portfolio attract and support global businesses, strengthening the Cayman Islands’ reputation as a world-class hub for international businesses,” Rivers added.

Camana Bay is a 685-acre master-planned town that has blossomed over the years into a vibrant mixed-use hub by embracing the principles of New Urbanism and incorporating sustainable features from inception.

“LEED certification is the ultimate recognition of global green building leadership, signalling that a space has undergone rigorous third-party verification and meets the highest green building standards,” said Peter Templeton, president and chief executive officer of USGBC. “The success of LEED is due to the partnership and support of those committed to advancing green building and sustainability.”

60 Nexus Way, which also won Best Office Development in the Americas at the 2023 International Property Awards, is the third Camana Bay property to be LEED-certified. One Nexus Way and 18 Forum Lane both have LEED® Gold Certification. Under construction is 90 Nexus Way, which is nearing completion and being built to meet LEED certification standards.
