Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Lee reported only 30 positive COVID-19 cases out of 1,132 PCR tests carried out from 8am Thursday to 8am Friday.
It was the lowest number of new daily cases since 21 Oct. Two positives were in travellers and 28 cases came from the community.
The daily share of positive tests of 2.65% was the lowest since 20 Oct.; at that time Cayman only had a total of 235 active cases.
The share of positive tests reported this week dropped by almost half to 6.3% from 11.5% last week.
The total number of active cases declined marginally to 3,448, whereas the number of COVID-19 patients in hospital in the Cayman Islands fell by three to 14.
In the Sister Islands, which have not seen any new COVID cases in all of December, the number of active cases dropped to seven. Active cases on Cayman Brac and Little Cayman had peaked at 86 on 5 Nov.
At least 80% of the population fully vaccinated
As of Friday morning, 58,400 people (82% of the population) had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 56,536 had completed the two-dose course.
Based on a conservative population estimate of 71,106, this means that Cayman today finally reached the government target of having 80% of the population fully vaccinated.
However, according to preliminary census figures, which suggest Cayman has a population of approximately 67,000 people, the actual vaccination rates may be even higher.
In addition, 13,542 people, representing 19% of the total population, had received a third, or booster, dose.

It is about time! Finally some kind of good news!
Based on the above Census count of 67,000 population:
– 87% have received at least 1 dose
– 84% have full double dose
– 20% have had a booster
Explain to me why we are still operating in fear.
Everyone has the right to choose to be vaccinated or not.
If Government is not making it mandatory, then stop the nonsense of 3 additional tests. The vaccinated people are not the issue.
Unvaccinated people have had plenty of time to decide and they do not want it. Move forward and let’s get back to life.
