Man arrested with fake travel certificate at ORIA

A 71-year-old man remains in police custody after being arrested with a fake travel certificate, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said on Thursday.

The man, who was travelling from Cuba, is the first to be arrested for this offence in the Cayman Islands.

Police, in a statement, said on Tuesday, 21 Dec., Customs and Border Control Officers at Owen Roberts International Airport alerted officers to a man who was refused entry, after supplying a suspected false travel certificate.

A travel certificate is required, under Cayman’s COVID-19 regulations, for entry here, as well as a negative PCR test.

The man was arrested on suspicion of presenting a false document to immigration authorities, and taken into custody where he remains as investigations continue.
